Sogepoc Group disputes with Americans over walnut market in Portugal

7 million walnut processing plant and "unique in Europe" inaugurated in Évora

"As we are, in a way, going to substitute the American offer in the European market, which imports a lot of walnuts, and in Portugal we import 70% of what we consume, we intend to have a differentiated offer that gives us the perspective of earning between 20 and 25 million euros with this unit".

The only walnut processing plant in Portugal is located in the Alentejo

"In terms of exports, the preferred markets are German, Spanish and Italian, in addition to the national market. We expect to have a turnover that can reach between 20 and 25 million euros and we are committed to job creation, between 80 and 100 jobs".

Among the sustainability factors included in Sogepoc's project are "irrigation efficiency" through monitoring with probes, the use of "solar energy", the "inter-row greening" of plantations, the "use of bark as fertiliser" and the "reuse of processing water".
